Virgil Villers’ work echoes Egyptian
and African influences. His work is
about the timelessness of the past compared to the short-lived immediacy of
the present. Villers’ work can be divided into
three distinguishable forms—the human
figure, the animal and the environment. The figure, is not about the human figure,
but rather the metaphysical. He
achieves this ethereal,
expressionless imagery by using a basic primitive principle—parallel
axial construction. This elongated
construction, absent of contrapasto or figurative twist, conveys an
overwhelming sense of stillness and surreal stylization to create a dreamlike
aura. |
