BEST of the WEST INVITATIONAL At: Desert Art Collection & Sculpture
Garden 45-350
San Luis Rey Ave. at El Paseo Palm
Desert, CA 92260 For this show the best artists West of the
Mississippi River were invited to send a painting they consider to be their
best piece completed that year. In
addition to demonstrating mastery over medium, these artists have that “je ne
sais quoi” that transcends craft. Mostly representational, the artwork has a
distinct regional feeling only captured by those who have lived and breathed
the West. The jurors only considered artists who
consistently did work that met the qualifications of extraordinary fine
art—mastery of medium, great composition, expression of thought, and, of
course, that certain something that evokes an emotional response. As Richard Gonzalez, master sculptor from
England, says, “We do not have to be specially educated to smile, or to know
when we love something. Appreciation
of art is a natural human faculty that cannot be taught, only experienced…” The show, then, could be considered the
best of the best. By any perspective,
it is fine art. |
